Stress & Burnout are a growing epidemic in the UK.

Why is training about stress important?

Stress has such a huge impact on our mental and physical health that it is termed ‘the modern killer’. Statistics show that chronic stress has the same impact on reducing life expectancy as smoking. Common difficulties linked to stress include sleeping difficulties, insomnia, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, high blood pressure, digestive problems, heart disease, migraines and diabetes.

Work is closely linked to stress. In fact, 76% of people report that work place stress affects their mental health. Taking pre-emptive steps to manage stress in the workplace can support employees to better understand how to manage their mental wellbeing and reduce the chances of unmanaged stress leading to eventual burnout.

How can this benefit my business?

13.7 million work days are lost in the UK due to stress every year. 10.4 million UK employees were signed off due to burnout in 2022 and 8% of all occupational health cases cited burnout. The cost of stress for businesses is clearly evidenced by the statistics. Companies who prioritise taking steps to manage work related stress and burnout, have employees who report better work satisfaction, and increased employee attendance and performance.

36% of employees report that they do not feel their company does enough to support them with stress and 70% employees report they would leave their job due to burnout. Every £1 spent on employee’s mental wellbeing saves businesses £5. This is because businesses who engage in providing mental health training for their employees benefit through improved staff retention and reduced costs related to sickness.
