Dr Jacob Waite

I am a clinical psychologist with many years of experience of working with adults of all ages who are struggling to live in the world as they would wish.

I am highly experienced at working with people affected by depression, anxiety, perfectionism, generalised anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress, psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorder and complex emotional needs. It is deeply important to me to work in a way that is guided by the simple truth that no two people with any of those difficulties are the same. I start from the understanding that everyone who enters therapy is a unique human being. The unique human beings I work with are often feeling stuck or lost in their lives, often in the context of a life situation in which the gap between the life they have and the life they dream of is feeling too great. Not everyone will have a diagnosis that neatly describes their experience; some may simply be experiencing strong emotional reactions to unexpected change or a lack of desired change: career burnout or dissatisfaction, challenges in relationships, physical illness or injury, bereavement, or some other intense worry or disappointment.

With an approach informed by a broad range of therapeutic models (including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Psychoanalytic Therapy & Systemic Therapy) I provide a nurturing therapeutic space, tailored to my clients’ unique needs, in which we can practice interacting with and exploring  experiences in new ways that will help them move in the direction of the meaningful life they want. I love this work.

I count it a privilege to be trusted with a client’s most intimate hopes and fears, and I strive to match the courage they show in sharing with me by showing up fully, ready to be shaped into the therapist they need me to be.
