Dr Ellen Presser
I am an experienced counselling psychologist who specialises in working with children and young people. In addition to this, I have many years’ experience working with adults who have struggled with a variety of emotional and mental health needs. I have worked across a number of different settings including third sector, NHS and within private practice.

I take an integrative therapeutic approach which means that I try to place the person at the centre of what I do and tailor the therapeutic intervention to meet their individual needs. I always use evidence-based interventions to ensure that the help I’m providing is of the highest quality. I draw on a number of different therapeutic models including; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mentalisation based therapy for adolescents (MBT-A) and psychodynamic therapy.

I am very passionate about the work I do with young people and have spent over a decade working in the NHS, schools and the third sector supporting children and young people who have struggled with their mental health. Some of the mental health needs I can support with our; depression, anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD, OCD and emotional dysregulation. I have also got a great deal of experience working with young people who have underlying neurodevelopmental needs such as autism and ADHD and, having completed the National Autism Trainer Programme, I am able to adapt therapies for young people. I understand that many of our therapeutic approaches need to be adapted to meet the needs of this specific group and have ample experience in doing this. Over the years, I have worked closely with schools and other local agencies in order to promote holistic care across the different domains of young people’s lives.

Alongside my work with young people, I have also supported adults with their mental health. I have experience working with trauma and PTSD. I spent several years of my career supporting victims of domestic and sexual violence, both male and female, from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. In addition to this, I have worked within substance misuse services and supported many adults on their journey to recovery. I can also support adults with a range of emotional and mental health needs such as depression, anxiety, OCD and bereavement.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as well as the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and have completed the clinical doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych). I have additional qualifications in MBT-A, DBT Skills and TF-CBT. I also have training in specialist interventions for families and young people including; the Solihull Approach and the Incredible Years Parenting Programme.
