Dr Aedin Kelly

In my NHS career I have worked with adults, children and families from diverse backgrounds, experiences and life circumstances. I have specialised in working with people experiencing complex trauma, psychosis and long-term health conditions. I am skilled in supporting people to understand, explore and manage experiences of anxiety, depression, traumatic flashbacks, loss of sense of self or identity and self-criticism.

My therapeutic approach incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapies, specifically Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), Systemic therapies and Psychodynamic therapies.  This creates a flexible therapeutic style where we can together explore your experiences through a variety of lenses, such as thoughts and behaviours (CBT), the influence of familial, social and cultural factors (systemic), and relationship patterns and attachment styles (psychodynamic). I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent people and recognise the importance of adapting my practice to cater to diverse needs.

I am committed to incorporating how the social context, such as culture and community, and unique aspects of our identity, such as sexuality, race and ethnicity, shapes our experiences and how we understand the world around us.  In collaboration with you, I strive to offer space for these aspects to be respectfully and sensitively welcomed into therapeutic conversations.

Whether you find yourself facing a particular challenge; are at a point of transition in your life; or perhaps feel unsure of where you find yourself, therapy can be an effective means of gaining new perspectives, learning ways to manage difficulties and reconnecting with what is important to you. I would be delighted to hear from you and support you in this process.

Yoga Therapy

My yoga journey began in 2013 when I attended my first yoga class. I travelled to Southern India to develop my practice further in 2019, and it was in 2021, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training in LondonThis intensive 200-hour training comprised of an in-depth study of anatomy and yoga philosophy and ‘asana’ (postures).

By combining my knowledge and skills from psychology and yogaI can offer an integrative individualised approach combining the science and philosophy of yoga with evidence-based practices of Clinical Psychology. My sessions can incorporate talking therapy and yoga, or can be focused on yoga alone, depending on your preference and needs.

If you are interested in a combined approach, a typical session can incorporate talking therapy, alongside calming breathing techniques to soothe the nervous system, physical postures that bring openness and grounding to the body, and mindful awareness of our physical and mental states. If yoga practice alone is your preference, sessions are developed to meet your unique needs, whether this be muscular and joint pain, fatigue, or simply a need to move your body more. I am skilled in supporting people to recognise this mind-body connection and to learn ways to release stress through movement, meditation, and practices of deep rest. This allows the nervous system to reset and for balance to be brought back to the mind and body.

I would be delighted to hear from you and support you in your journey towards mind-body reconnection.
